A How To Guide To Prepare Your Environment For WatchKit Apps
An application for Apple Watch requires an existing iOS application for now, so the first step for WatchKit applications is to add a WatchKit app target. This target, provided by Xcode, has everything you need to get started creating apps, notifications and glances for Apple Watch.
To add a WatchKit app target, do the following steps:
1. Update your Xcode to the latest version — for this article I’m going to use Version 6.2 (6C131e).
2. With your iOS app project open select File > New > Target and go to the Apple Watch section.
3. Select the appropriate checkboxes, which will depend on your development plan (glance and/or custom notification).
4. To finish, Xcode will add additional files and configurations for the new target. Now, you can build the application in the simulator. You should see this result:
You can also change the size of the Apple Watch simulator: iOS Simulator > Hardware > External Displays
